I directed the music video for ‘Hazy Eyes’ by Endearments. Invoking the experimental collage work that the advent of VHS brought to music videos in the late 80s/early 90s, we decided to shoot direct to VHS.
The song being a love letter to a drug fueled night in the City, I first shot about 30 minutes of footage around the city, tailoring a different textural component to each band member: architecture, nature, and people. I edited these down into track-length videos and ran them through analogue hardware to get a controlled degradation of the footage.
Back in the studio, we projected the footage over the band as they played and that was again captured on VHS which was edited down into the final.
